Infrared asphalt repair creates a seamless patch by heating the damaged asphalt, adding new asphalt to the damaged area and compacting the resultant blend. Infrared uses “invisible” infrared heat to recycle the existing asphalt.
The equipment produces intense infrared wavelengths that reach temperatures exceeding 1200° Fahrenheit. These infrared waves penetrate the surface of the existing asphalt and heat it to a depth necessary for the scarification and repair of the damaged asphalt. The rejuvenator adds light oils that, due to time, weather and wear, have been lost from the original asphalt. The addition of fresh hot asphalt produces a seamless repair with heat-welded edges.
These fused seams don’t require crack seal or allow water to penetrate to the limestone base the way a cut and patch sometimes can. The patch is completed when it is brought up to the grade, leveled and compacted.

Cut and Patch asphalt repair is the standard for treating areas where damage to the asphalt has resulted in a hole that has penetrated to the base. Typically such damage cannot be treated by infrared due to the base’s poor condition, insufficient thickness of the existing asphalt or because the asphalt has simply reached the end of it’s life expectancy.
Consequently, the area must be cut out with a saw, removed, re-based and re-paved with new asphalt.
